    Event: Earthquake
Location: China Province of Xinjiang Uygur Zizhiqu Yining

    Number of Deads: 4 person(s)
    Number of Injured: 112 person(s)

Situation:Extensive damage was reported in northwest China's Xinjiang-Uighur region after an earthquake rocked the region, state media said. The quake, which Chinese seismologists measured at 6-magnitude, struck Tuesday morning, destroying more than 800 homes, and forcing the evacuation of more than 3,800 people, the official Xinhua news agency reported. No casualties were reported. The quake was centered in Yining and Gongliu counties in the Kazak region, but was felt in several nearby counties, the report said. Direct economic losses were estimated at about $10.5 million. Schools remained closed as two rescue teams were dispatched for recovery work. The regional bureau of civil affairs said relief supplies were being sent to the area, including tents, beddings and shoes. The quake also triggered a landslide on a national highway in the region but normal traffic had resumed Wednesday. The quake was one of two that struck China Tuesday morning. The other, a 5.4-magnitude quake, jolted Sichuan and Gansu provinces in western China, but no casualties were reported. There were no immediate reports of damage in the two provinces.

    Situation Update No. 9
    On 2011-11-03 at 04:09:44 [UTC]

    Event: Volcano Eruption
Location: Canary-Islands (Esp.) Island of El Hierro Underwater volcano (unnamed)

    Situation:

A series of quakes including one measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale shook Hierro island in Spain's Canaries on Wednesday, three weeks after a nearby undersea volcanic eruption. The 4.0-magnitude quake struck at 0755 GMT in the Atlantic about five kilometres (three miles) northwest of the town of Frontera, population 4,000, said a report by the National Geographical Institute. It was measured at a depth of 20 kilometres (12 miles). Experts advised that the possibility of a new volcanic eruption could not be confirmed or ruled out, said a spokeswoman for the Canary Islands regional government. "It could happen but in principle it is not imminent," the spokeswoman said. No evacuations were under way. The Spanish authorities sent tents, toilets and a canteen to the island to lodge 2,000 people in case of an evacuation, the regional government said in a statement. When combined with Red Cross supplies, a total 2,500 evacuees could be sheltered if needed, it said. Some 500 residents and tourists were evacuated from the village of La Restinga after a 4.3-magnitude quake and undersea volcanic eruption October 10 but have since returned home. Restinga remains on red alert for a possible eruption, the highest point on a three-level warning scale. The previous volcanic eruption on the Canary Islands struck on nearby La Palma in 1971. El Hierro, which means iron in Spanish, is the smallest of Spain's Canary Islands, located in the Atlantic off the coast of Morocco. It is home to some 11,000 people.

The largest series of quakes in over 200 years have hit the Oklahoma area. The last time this magnitude of tremblers was during the New Madrid mega-quakes of 1811-1812.
Specific to the State of Oklahoma, the first earthquake known with its epicenter located within the State's borders, occurred in September 1918. A series of shocks at El Reno produced only minor effects; the strongest was intensity V on September 10. Objects were thrown from shelves. Other shocks occurred on the next day.

**Notice the scale of strength is measured by "Intensity" not "Magnitude" (see scale below)

It is yet known if the recent series of M-class flares(including one X-class) is related to this extremely rare, and perhaps prophetic, array of quakes some larger than 5.0 magnitude. Last Friday Nov. 4th, "two" high speed full halo CMEs (coronal mass ejection) were observed by both the LASCO C2 and STEREO spacecraft. One came from sunspot region 1339, the second came from region 1319 occurring on the farside of the Sun near rotation around the eastern limb. Solar flare article - Click Here

On December 27, 1929, another tremor centered in the same area was felt in portions of central and western Oklahoma. Some plaster cracked and at least one chimney fell (intensity VI) at El Reno. In addition, clocks stopped, objects moved, and some reports indicated the walls and floors seemed to sway. In several cities, people rushed from their homes in alarm. Situation Update No. 2
    On 2011-11-06 at 09:38:00 [UTC]

    Event: Earthquake
Location: USA State of Oklahoma About 30 miles of Shawnee

Situation:A 5.6 magnitude quake rocked Oklahoma late Saturday after a day of smaller quakes, leaving cracked buildings and a buckled highway but no major damage. Unspecified damage to buildings located close to the quake's epicenter was reported by the Lincoln County Emergency Management department. "Very significant damages are being reported in southern Lincoln County," the department posted on Facebook. An emergency manager in Lincoln County later said U.S. 62, a highway in the region, had crumbled in places. The reports in the late-night hours were sketchy and the extent of damages remained uncertain early Sunday. The quake was one of several to rattle the state Saturday, including a magnitude 4.7 earthquake that shook the same area early Saturday. The quake could prove the most powerful on state record if the 5.6 reading reported by the U.S. Geological Survey stands. The seismic monitoring agency said the quake struck at 10:53 p.m. local time Saturday and was centered about 44 mile east-northeast of Oklahoma City. It had initially reported the temblor as a 5.2 magnitude quake.

It said the quake struck near the community of Sparks -- in eastern Oklahoma between Oklahoma City and Tulsa. The temblor shook the stadium at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater just at the end of the school's football game with Kansas State. No. 3 Oklahoma State's players were gathered in the locker room under the Boone Pickens Stadium stands just after a 52-45 win against No. 17 Kansas State when the ground began to shake. "Coach (Mike) Gundy was talking to me, everybody was looking around and no one had any idea," quarterback Brandon Weeden said. "We thought the people above us were doing something. I've never felt one, so that was a first." The shaking could be felt in the stadium's press box for the better part of a minute before it subsided. The stands were already clearing out when the quake happened, just a few minutes after the down-to-the-wire game had ended. "That shook up the place, had a lot of people nervous," OSU wide receiver Justin Blackmon said. "Yeah, it was pretty strong."

Michelann Ooten, a spokeswoman for the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management, said no injuries were reported to emergency management officials and that there had been no reports of injuries. She also said the authorities had no immediate reports of major damages. The U.S. Geological Survey reported from Golden, Colo., on its website that it monitored a 5.6 magnitude quake at 10:53 p.m. local time Saturday and said it was centered about 44 miles east-northeast of Oklahoma City. It had initially reported the temblor as a 5.2 magnitude quake. If the intensity of the Saturday night quake is confirmed, it would be the state's strongest on record. USGS records show that a 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck El Reno, just west of Oklahoma City, in 1952 and, before Oklahoma became a state in 1907, a quake of similar magnitude 5.5 struck in northeastern Indian Territory in 1882. The Saturday night quake was felt as far away as Tennessee and Wisconsin, according to reports received by the USGS.

Some in Oklahoma reported cracks appeared after the latest quake. "There's a crack going from the closet to the ceiling. I've never seen that before. I was in my bedroom grabbing my phone and I happened to notice it," said Todd McKinsey, in the community of Moore, speaking with The Oklahoman. Saturday's earlier temblor, which hit at 2:12 a.m., woke people and pets as it shook an area that stretched from Texas to Missouri. Its epicenter was 6 miles north of Prague in Lincoln County, in the rolling hills about 50 miles east of Oklahoma City. A 3.4 magnitude aftershock was reported at 2:27 a.m. from the same location, as well as a 2.7 magnitude aftershock at 2:44 a.m. "Oh, man. I've never felt anything like that in my life," Prague City Police Department dispatcher Claudie Morton told the Tulsa World. "It was the scariest thing. I had a police officer just come in and sit down and all the sudden the walls started shaking and the windows were rattling. It felt like the roof was going to come off the police department." Morton said the office was flooded with calls, but no one reported injuries or major damage. She said residents told her that picture frames and mirrors fell from walls and broke, drawers worked loose from dressers and objects tumbled out of cabinets.

"We do have several damaged buildings downtown, but it's just cracks and things like that," Morton said. "Nothing is destroyed or anything like that." Oklahoma Geological Survey researcher Austin Holland told Oklahoma City television station KOTV that the earthquake and aftershocks occurred on a known fault line. Residents in Prague and Sparks felt an intense shaking, while farther away, the quake was more of a dull rumble, he said. "It shakes much more rapidly when you're closer to it," he said. "Because it's a large earthquake, it's going to rumble for a while." Holland said his office received hundreds of emails from people who felt the quake. The messages came from as far as Texas, Missouri and Arkansas, he said. Tom Foster of Oklahoma City told The Oklahoman that he slept through the earthquake but was awakened by an aftershock. "I know we've already had several phone calls from out of state relatives wondering what happened," Foster said. "I guess it's more interesting than anything that was dangerous." Heather Spicer of Sapulpa said the shaking woke her son and their dog. "At first I thought an airplane had crashed nearby," she told The Oklahoman. "But now I believe it was an earthquake because the whole house just kept vibrating with what sounded like distant thunder outside." In Muskogee, retired advertising and public relations executive Robert Rhea said he felt his home rocking for about 15 to 20 seconds with the last quake Saturday night.

    Event: Volcano Eruption
Location: Canary-Islands (Esp.) Island of El Hierro Underwater volcano (unnamed)

    Situation:
A village on one of Spain’s Canary Islands, has been evacuated because of the threat of eruption of an underwater volcano. The increasingly strong seismic activity has prompted the authorities to put the area around La Restringa on red alert and the rest of the island on yellow alert. El Hierro is the smallest of the Canary Islands with around 11,000 residents. Since the seismic activity began back in July there have been more than 10, 000 tremors The number of people being moved from their homes in the village of La Restringa is between five and six hundred. “We didn’t have time to prepare anything, we just took what was most necessary,” said one woman. Antoher added,“some clothes, medicines, the deeds to the house, that’s all they told us.” It is the second time in a month that the villagers have had to move out of their homes. The civil authorities are describing this latest evacuation as a precautionary step. The last time a volcano fully erupted in the Canaries was 40 years ago in 1971.

    จีนตื่น! วาฬยักษ์ตายเกยตื้นบนชายหาด

    เรียบเรียงข้อมูลโดยกระปุกดอทคอม
    ขอขอบคุณภาพประกอบจาก new.mingpao.com, taihainet.com

    Situation Update No. 4
    On 2011-11-08 at 04:38:07 [UTC]

    Event: Earthquake
Location: USA State of Oklahoma About 30 miles of Shawnee
Situation:Dozens of aftershocks followed Saturday's 5.6 earthquake, the biggest was in Meeker at a 2.6 magnitude. Even if we can't feel them Oklahoma will be rattled by aftershocks for weeks, and even months to come. But one local expert says we've already felt the worst of it. An earthquake strong enough to damage homes and buckle roads seems out of place in the Sooner State. "We have an incredible range of geology. It's very active tectonically. We have earthquakes all the time in Oklahoma." The U.S. Geological Survey ranks Oklahoma 18th in the nation for the number of earthquakes, of course many rumbles deep beneath the earth's crust and are never felt on the surface. Structural geologist Doctor Bryan Tapp says you shouldn't be surprised by the quakes, what is unusual is the timing of the twin tremors. The early Saturday morning 4.7 is now being called a "foreshock" to the 5.6 that rocked the state more than eight hours later. "I think this is probably going to be the limit for a while. We're going to see ones in the three-range," Dr. Tapp said. Doctor Tapp says this shaky scenario has been shaping up for 300 million years. He says when the Wichita, Arbuckle, and Ouachita Mountains rose; it created two basins that continue to sink to this day. All that activity created a fault line where the tectonic plates continue to shift and settle, causing the tremors. "Nothing to be afraid of, they will cause damage. But I don't expect it to occur again. I don't think we're ramping up for the big one. This one is probably the big one for some time. At least I hope so," Dr. Tapp said. The next time a quake strikes, experts say you shouldn't dive for a doorway, unless you know it's strongly supported or load-bearing. They advise you to take cover under a sturdy table or piece of furniture. Your instinct maybe to get out of wherever you are, FEMA says it's safer to stay put. Research shows the most injuries happen when people try to leave the building during an earthquake.
