Gratitude is a Rare Virtue and the Highest Blessing in Life | 17 Apr 2026

    Ajahn Anan Dhamma
    Apr 17, 2026

"Luang Por Anan spoke about how the completeness of being human can be measured by whether one has Dhamma in the heart—especially gratitude towards one’s parents, which is rare in this world. He compared parents to the Brahmās and arahants in the home, who give love without expecting anything in return. Therefore, children have the duty to care for them and ease their suffering while they are alive, as well as to make merit and recollect their kindness during festivals such as Songkran and QingMing after they have passed away.
Gratitude is considered a blessing in life. For example, there was a 15-year-old girl who struggled in life by collecting recyclables to care for her bedridden father, moving society to donate over one million baht to support her. Likewise, in a past life, the Buddha himself devotedly cared for his blind parents.
Therefore, practising gratitude helps elevate the mind, making it noble, and brings true happiness and prosperity into one’s life." ____

Filter Water Until It’s Clear, Filter the Mind Until It Is Pure | 24 Apr 2026

    Ajahn Anan Dhamma
    Apr 25, 2026
"The human mind is like a stream of water. If we let it flow along with our emotions, it will naturally become cloudy and unsettled.

Training the mind is therefore like ‘filtering water’. It requires mindfulness and moral discipline as filters to remove the sediments of defilements. One important stage is filtering our speech.
Words mixed with anger are like ‘hot water’ that burns both our own heart and others. In contrast, right speech filled with loving-kindness is like ‘cool water’ that brings calm and ease to one another.
When we continuously refine and purify the mind until it becomes clear, loving-kindness transforms into 'pure, life-giving water' that nourishes the heart, making it cool and peaceful. This cooling, soothing quality is something that can truly be experienced.
In the end, when our body, speech, and mind become pure and clear, we naturally encounter true happiness. We are also able to share this cooling, peaceful energy with those around us, allowing them to experience happiness in a beautiful way."

    No Shortcuts | 1 May 2026

    Ajahn Anan Dhamma
    May 2, 2026

"Why does success take time? We cannot have a barn full of rice if we have not planted it yet. Likewise, success and peace in life have no shortcuts. Everything must be built from causes and conditions. People today tend to be impatient and want quick results, but rushing is like someone planting a tree and constantly pulling it up to check its growth—eventually, the tree withers and dies.
Working or training oneself inevitably involves facing criticism, which we must handle with mindfulness, without reacting in anger. The true secret is “perseverance.” Luang Pu Cha compared taking action to rubbing pieces of bamboo together—if we stop and let them cool down, the fire will never ignite.
Therefore, consistently cultivate goodness, do not give up, and you will encounter lasting success."

Gratitude: The True Treasure of Life | 8 May 2026

    Ajahn Anan Dhamma
    May 8, 2026

"Luang Por Anan spoke about gratitude as the highest form of merit. The Buddha once praised a monk who gave up his alms food to care for his blind parents. Through the merit of this act, he eventually attained the Dhamma-eye.
In addition, Luang Por shared the Jātaka story of the parrot king, which teaches the principle of allocating food in three ways:
    1. 'Repaying a debt of gratitude' — by using it to care for one’s parents
    2. 'Lending' — by using it to raise one’s children
    3. 'Storing as treasure' — by using it for giving to others
Every child should take care of their parents and regularly check on them. Even if parents may sometimes be stubborn, one should respond with loving-kindness and equanimity, with patience. Gratitude is an essential foundation of the heart, helping us overcome life’s difficulties and live with true happiness."
