ด้านผู้เชี่ยวชาญกล่าวว่า การปะทุของภูเขาไฟครั้งนี้ อาจเป็นสัญญาณของการปะทุครั้งต่อๆ ไปอีก ทั้งนี้เมื่อปี 2496 โคลนที่ไหลออกมาจากปากปล่องภูเขาไฟลูกนี้ ได้ทำให้เกิดอุบัติเหตุรถไฟ ครั้งรุนแรงที่สุดในนิวซีแลนด์ ส่งผลให้มีผู้เสียชีวิตไปถึง 151 คน

A volcano has erupted on a tiny island off the coast of Yemen, spewing lava and ash hundreds of feet into the air, a Canadian naval vessel near the island in the Red Sea reported Sunday. The Yemeni government asked NATO to assist in searching for survivors. Ken Allan, a Navy spokesman, said a NATO fleet just outside the territorial waters of the island Jazirt Atta-Ir reported seeing a "catastrophic volcanic eruption" at 7 p.m. local time. The 2-mile-long island is about 70 miles off the coast of Yemen. "At this time, the entire island is aglow with lava and magma as it pours down into the sea. We do not have confirmation of how many people were on this island at the time of the eruption," Allan said in an e-mail. "The lava is spewing hundreds of feet into the air, with the volcanic ash also (rising) a thousand feet in the air," Allan said. The Canadian Armed Forces said they are trying to locate nine people believed to be at sea after the Yemen coast guard requested help. The NATO fleet was sailing toward the Suez Canal when it spotted the eruption. The government of Yemen asked NATO to assist in the search for survivors and the closet ship, the HMCS Toronto, is heading toward the island. Situation

Official information: HMCS Toronto is currently conducting a search and rescue operation, at the request of the Yemen coast guard, to locate nine people believed to be at sea after a volcanic eruption occurred on Sunday on the island of Jazirt Atta-Ir, about 140 kilometers from Yemen in the Red Sea. At the time of the eruption, the NATO fleet was sailing north towards the Suez Canal. Her Majesty's Canadian Ship (HMCS) Toronto is currently deployed on Operation SEXTANT, Canada's maritime contribution to the Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 (SNMG1) fleet in support of the NATO Response Force (NRF). The Halifax-class patrol frigate departed Halifax on July 20, 2007 for a five-month deployment during which it will conduct operations in the Mediterranean and circumnavigate Africa.

Description:

A series of small earthquakes and two ash explosions shook the 1,560-meter (5,150-foot) Bulusan volcano in the central Philippines early Thursday, but scientists ruled out an imminent eruption. The restive volcano has been blowing ash and steam since March 2006. The latest explosions shortly after midnight could not be seen because thick clouds obscured the volcano's summit, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported. The institute recorded 40 volcanic earthquakes during the last 24 hours, which resulted in a slight swelling of the mountain's slopes. The ash blanketed several villages and the nearby Bulusan town, about 390 kilometers (240 miles) southeast of Manila. Authorities have maintained the lowest of five alert levels for the volcano and barred people from entering a four-kilometer (2.5-mile) "permanent danger zone" around Bulusan. The institute warned that more ash explosions were likely and residents living near streams or rivers around Bulusan should be on alert for mudflows of loose ash deposits during heavy rains. Description:

The Kamchatka volcano Shiveluch located in the north of the peninsula intensifies its activity and threatens with new heavy eruption. According to RIA Sever DV, lately the volcano Shiveluch activity has increased and a heavy eruption is supposed to occur; it is supposed to be as heavy as the eruption in 2005, when the burning hot lava stream about a kilometer wide and 25 kilometers long erupted from Shiveluch and rushed down its slopes burning everything on its way. The seismic stations have already registered more than 400 local earthquakes near the volcano. The scientists suppose that some seismic events were accompanied with emissions of gas and ash about four kilometers high. The eruption of the volcano, 3,3 thousand meters high, began in December, 2006. The massive gas and ash columns rise above its crater from time to time. The volcano is not dangerous for the nearby settlements of the peninsula; however the emissions of ash threaten the aircrafts and melting snow sometimes causes avalanching onto the Kamchatka Territory roads.

The activity of the volcano may affect international and low-flying aircraft. According to satellite data, a small eruption of the volcano occurred. According to seismic data, two eruptive events occurred from 14:27 till 14:48 UTC and from 15:10 till 16:30 UTC on October 14. Amplitude of volcanic tremor at the start of the eruption was about 7.0 mkm. According to satellite data, ash plumes extended >100 km (62 mi) to the south-east from the volcano. A thermal anomaly over the lava dome was very intense the last several days. This is possibly the start of a strong eruption of Bezymianny volcano. KVERT continues to monitor this volcano.

ผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้านภูเขาไฟอินโดนีเซียเตือนภูเขาไฟเคลุด อาจจะใกล้ระเบิดครั้งใหญ่ นายซูโรโน่ ผู้อำนวยการศูนย์ภูเขาไฟ และธรณีวิทยาในเมืองบันดุงของอินโดนีเซียเปิดเผยว่า จำนวนครั้งที่เกิดแผ่นดินไหวบริเวณภูเขาไฟเคลุดสูงขึ้นถึง 23 ครั้งต่อวัน เทียบกับเมื่อครั้งที่เกิดระเบิดครั้งล่าสุด เมื่อปี 2533 ที่เกิดแผ่นดินไหวสูงสุด 15 ครั้งต่อวัน นอกจากนี้ปริมาณของแก๊ส และสารเคมียังเพิ่มสูงขึ้น ขณะที่อุณหภูมิบริเวณปากปล่องภูเขาไฟก็สูงขึ้นอย่างรวดเร็วถึง 37.4 องศาเซลเซียสเมื่อวานนี้จาก 32.2 องศาเซลเซียส เมื่อเดือนสิงหาคมที่ผ่านมา ซึ่งนายซูโรโน่ได้เตรียมพร้อม ส่งข้อความเตือนภัยภูเขาไฟระเบิดไปยังหน่วยงานที่เกี่ยวข้อง และเจ้าหน้าที่กู้ภัยแล้ว

ภูเขาไฟเคลุดอยู่ห่างจากเมืองสุราบายา เมืองใหญ่อันดับ 2 ของอินโดนีเซีย ไปทางตะวันตกเฉียงใต้ 90 กิโลเมตร ระเบิดครั้งสุดท้ายเมื่อปี 2533 มีผู้เสียชีวิตอย่างน้อย 30 คน แต่เมื่อปี 2462 เกิดระเบิดครั้งใหญ่คร่าชีวิตผู้คนไปถึง 5,000 คน

แม้จะทางการจะเตือนเมื่อวันอังคารที่ผ่านมาว่า ภูเขาไฟมรณะ "เค-ลุด" ใกล้จะระเบิดเต็มทีแล้ว แต่ชาวบ้านจำนวนหนึ่ง ที่อพยพออกมาจากหมู่บ้านเชิงเขา ใกล้ภูเขาไฟกลับพากันออกจากศูนย์อพยพกลับบ้าน เพื่อดูแลพืชผักที่ปลูกเอาไว้ และดูแลสัตว์เลี้ยง

ชาวบ้านบางคนบอกว่า พวกเขาต้องออกมาจากที่นั่น ก็เพราะไม่มีอะไรจะกิน เพราะไม่มีใครนำเอาอาหารไปให้เลย
เจ้าหน้าที่ท้องถิ่น ได้ยื่นคำขาดต่อชาวบ้านที่อาศัยอยู่รอบ ๆ ภูเขาไฟ"เค-ลุด"ในรัศมี 10 กิโลเมตรราว 3 หมื่นคน ให้อพยพหนีออกมาเสียแต่เนิ่น ๆ แต่มีบางคนปฏิเสธ ไม่ยอมปฏิบัติตาม

ภูเขาไฟ"เค-ลุด"ระเบิดครั้งสุดท้ายเมื่อปี 2533 ทำให้มีผู้เสียชีวิตไปหลายสิบคน และก่อนหน้านั้นเมื่อปี 2462 ก็เกิดระเบิดมาแล้ว ทำให้มีผู้เสียชีวิต5,160 คน
